Day Care for Elderly People at Residential Care Home Shirley Southampton

Rowan House is a small, friendly Care Home established in 1991 by the current owners Roger and Angela Hurley.

Angela is the registered manager and has successfully run the home ever since.

Located in Shirley, a quiet residential suburb of Southampton, we are close to Southampton Common, Shirley Shopping Centre and a short bus ride from Southampton City Centre, the Train Station and Southampton Airport.

Rowan House is a beautiful detached Edwardian property which was formerly a Guest House for theatrical folk, such as the Two Ronnies, who were performing at the Southampton Mayflower theatre.

In 1990, we extended and converted the house, retaining the character and ambience of the original, providing a comfortable and spacious home for our Residents.

Rowan House is registered to take the elderly and the eldery mentally infirm who may need a lot of support in day to day living.

Specialist diets are provided and there are plenty of choices on offer.

We offer good home cooking, and cater for individual needs.

Our Mission Statement

Residents who live at Rowan House can expect to be treated as individuals. We recognise that each person will have their own needs and wishes, likes and dislikes and we will make every effort to meet these requirements.

We encourage and welcome our Residents to have a say in everything that affects their daily life, and we will take their comments seriously. They will have as much choice as possible, and will be encouraged to retain their independence.

We will respect their privacy and dignity. We want them to feel secure, comfortable and well looked after, and have the companionship of other people who live and work in the Home.

We encourage potential Residents to come and spend a day with us to experience our facilities and meet our caring staff.

Residential Care

Residential care is suitable for those who are finding it difficult to cope at home by themselves, or for those who are cared for at home but may require more help than their carers are able to provide.

Residential care provides Residents with accommodation, meals and personal care. Personal care includes help with everyday routines such as washing, bathing, dressing and undressing, feeding and administering medication to meet all Residents needs.

We provide 24 hour care. Nursing services are provided locally by the Community Health Team, who are very supportive.

Residential care also facilitates the social aspects of life for the Residents, as they are able to enjoy the company of others and take part in activities and social events organised by the Home.

Medical Care

When a new Resident moves in, we create a Person Centered Care Plan which include all their medical needs.

If it is possible, we arrange for a Resident to continue with the services of their own GP.

There are several excellent local surgeries, and we are a short distance from both the Southampton General and the Royal South Hants hospitals.

We have regular visits from specialist nurses, physiotherapists, chiropodists, dentists, opticians and dieticians for our Residents’ convenience.

Personal Care

Rowan House provides accommodation, all meals, laundry, social and personal care, including help with bathing, dressing and medication administration.

We have professional and experienced care assistants in constant attendance day and night.

We never forget that our Residents are individuals, and that Rowan House is their new home.

Day Care

Rowan House Care Home also provides informal day care for non-Residents.

Our day care services are beneficial for people who are finding it difficult living at home, and also for carers to organise a break, with the peace of mind that their loved one will be well cared for.

They are encouraged to get involved with the Home's community, enjoy the social activities, and develop friendships, as well as improve or maintain life skills and quality of life.

Respite Care

Everyone deserves time out and a break from the usual routine can be beneficial to all concerned. As a carer you can be assured that your relative or friend is in a safe environment with a first class service tailored to their needs.

A respite stay gives the new temporary resident the opportunity to experience a change of surroundings and make new friends and enjoy the facilities provided.

Relationships built between the Home and a Resident give great reassurance to all concerned, especially if a more permanent stay becomes necessary.

Respite care is also ideal for those who are well enough to leave hospital, but not yet well enough to return home.

Inspection Report

Our home is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

A copy of our latest inspection report is always available at Rowan House.
